#18 · Aston Martin
Lance Stroll
Son of Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll. Took pole at the rain-hit Turkish GP in 2020 and has scored three career podiums. Steady midfield presence at the team his family controls.
Why he matters
Stroll has the most discussed seat in F1: he is the team owner’s son, with a guaranteed seat at the team’s discretion, which provokes regular debate about whether his pace warrants it. The honest answer is mixed: he has out-qualified senior teammates (Sergio Pérez, Sebastian Vettel) on individual weekends, but rarely beaten them across full seasons.
How he drives
Strong qualifier in mixed conditions (Turkey 2020, Monza 2017 front-row). Solid race-craft, occasional flashpoints: he is hard on tyres in some configurations and his radio frustration during difficult races is well-documented.
Watch for
- Rain. Stroll is demonstrably faster relative to teammates when the track is wet.
- His home Canadian Grand Prix: owned by his father’s team in his home country.
- His relationship with Alonso. Alonso is the senior driver, Stroll has the seat.
