Why he matters
Bearman’s debut in Saudi Arabia 2024 — appendicitis ruled out Carlos Sainz on Friday morning, so the 18-year-old Ferrari junior was thrown into the car and finished P7 — became one of the most celebrated rookie performances in modern F1. Haas signed him for 2025. He delivered the team’s strongest season since 2018.
How he drives
Aggressive on overtakes, sometimes too aggressive — he had a noticeable lockup-and-divebomb pattern in his rookie season that has cleaned up by 2026. Strong qualifier; very strong on slow-speed tracks like Monaco and Singapore where car balance can compensate for power deficit.
Watch for
- His midfield duels with the other rookies (Lindblad, Bortoleto, Hadjar, Antonelli) — this is the next generation racing each other right now.
- His relationship with Haas teammate Esteban Ocon, ten years his senior — interesting study in team-leader dynamics in reverse.
- His Q3 appearances at low-power tracks — Haas finds it easier to compete there.
