The team’s chassis side has lived in the same building in Hinwil, Switzerland since Peter Sauber founded the team in 1993. It has raced as Sauber, BMW Sauber, Sauber again, Alfa Romeo, Stake, and from 2026, as Audi.

This is Audi’s first works F1 entry, and the centerpiece is the new in-house power unit being built at the Audi Sport facility in Neuburg, Germany. The 2026 rule changes (bigger battery, simpler internal combustion engine, sustainable fuel) are why Audi entered now: a level reset where a newcomer could plausibly compete from year one.

Mattia Binotto, formerly of Ferrari, runs F1 operations. The team’s Hinwil headcount has roughly doubled since 2023 in preparation for the works era.
