The new American race
The Miami Grand Prix is held on a temporary circuit built around the Hard Rock Stadium (home of the Dolphins). It’s part of F1’s American expansion strategy: three US races now (Miami, Austin, Las Vegas), more than any other country.
Why it matters
The circuit’s chicane and tight turns 14–16 (the slow section through the marina-themed sponsor area) are the source of most of the race’s overtaking, while the long banked sweeper at Turn 17–19 produces some of the most spectacular qualifying-lap visuals on the calendar.
What to watch for
- Turn 1: the heaviest braking zone, where positions shift on lap one.
- The infield section (Turns 11–16): slow, technical, and easy to lose time.
- The fake marina: a paddock-built imitation harbor visible behind the cars on broadcast. Hosts more celebrities per square metre than any other GP.
